Scholastic Announces Distribution Partnership with Exent Technologies for Children's Software

Agreement Offers Parents and Children Online Access to Scholastic's Library of Educational and Entertainment Software

BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 6, 2004-- Scholastic Inc., the world's largest publisher of children's books and a leading publisher and distributor of children's software, has partnered with Exent Technologies Inc. as a content provider of downloadable games. Exent, a global leader in secure digital software delivery technologies, offers licensed, protected content to its turnkey service customers using the EXEtender(TM) technology platform. The partnership expands Scholastic's distribution channels for software, while the addition of Scholastic content enables Exent to provide broadband programming designed for kids and to enhance its offering to its customers.

Scholastic is releasing more than 100 CD-ROM games, including the popular Clifford The Big Red Dog(TM) and I SPY brands to be available to Exent's customers. The deal will also allow Exent's customers to offer content from several third-party publishers that Scholastic distributes under its brand.

"By working with Exent, Scholastic now has access to new digital channels that can leverage our catalog of quality educational games," said Deborah Forte, President of Scholastic Entertainment. "We believe online software distribution will help parents gain more convenient access to a broader variety of content, catering to both educational and entertainment needs."

"We view the partnership with Scholastic as an important step in broadening the market for online software distribution beyond computer games and the hard-core gamer," said Zvi Levgoren, CEO, Exent. "Service providers will now be able to provide a compelling offering to a wider audience and enjoy even greater churn reduction, per-user revenues, and an enhanced value proposition for broadband."
