BTopenworld Broadband announces 'Software to Go' trial with Exent Technologies
London - July 3, 2001 - In a UK first, BTopenworld, BT's mass market
Internet business, today announced a trial of 'Software To Go' that
will allow broadband users for the first time to rent software over
the internet using the latest streaming technology.
BTopenworld has chosen Exent Technologies, the leading developer
of Applications-on-Demand (AoD) technology for telecoms and broadband
services, to bring a range of games, lifestyle and business applications
to broadband users in the UK via BTopenworld's website www.btopenworld.com.
The BTopenworld-Exent collaboration pioneers software-on-demand
in the UK market. The service, provisionally called 'Software to
Go', is scheduled to begin a two month trial on July 25, 2001, with
a full launch expected to follow.
'Software to Go' will be the first offering of its kind in the
UK and will allow users to rent, over their Broadband Internet connection,
quality games and other software from leading publishers on an immediate
basis without having to invest the full purchase price. The trial
will be available as either a pay-per-hour, pay-per-weekend or per
48 hours or per-week option, with 10 minutes of free play on each
title. The service will also use for the first time BTopenworld's
eWallet payment service, ideally suited for settling 'Software To
Go's' rental charges.
