BTopenworld Broadband announces 'Software to Go' trial with Exent Technologies

London - July 3, 2001 - In a UK first, BTopenworld, BT's mass market Internet business, today announced a trial of 'Software To Go' that will allow broadband users for the first time to rent software over the internet using the latest streaming technology.

BTopenworld has chosen Exent Technologies, the leading developer of Applications-on-Demand (AoD) technology for telecoms and broadband services, to bring a range of games, lifestyle and business applications to broadband users in the UK via BTopenworld's website www.btopenworld.com.

The BTopenworld-Exent collaboration pioneers software-on-demand in the UK market. The service, provisionally called 'Software to Go', is scheduled to begin a two month trial on July 25, 2001, with a full launch expected to follow.

'Software to Go' will be the first offering of its kind in the UK and will allow users to rent, over their Broadband Internet connection, quality games and other software from leading publishers on an immediate basis without having to invest the full purchase price. The trial will be available as either a pay-per-hour, pay-per-weekend or per 48 hours or per-week option, with 10 minutes of free play on each title. The service will also use for the first time BTopenworld's eWallet payment service, ideally suited for settling 'Software To Go's' rental charges.

Nick Hazell, senior vice president production, applications and advertising at BTopenworld commented: "After evaluation of all the major players in the Applications on Demand market, we have chosen Exent for this important initiative. BTopenworld is a pioneer in this new area of on-demand application provision in the UK, and we are pleased to be able to offer 'Software to Go' as a first step. BTopenworld is not only committed to providing the best possible Broadband Internet experience to as many people in the UK as possible but also to providing the latest and greatest titles that are in the market today."

Zvi Levgoren, CEO of Exent Technologies, added: "We are proud to have been selected by BTopenworld to provide software on demand capabilities to their service. We are confident that their innovative service will tap into the enormous gaming and applications market and turn out to be one of their most lucrative revenue channels."

Full product specifications, prices and online ordering for BTopenworld broadband products are available at www.btopenworld.com. All such products are subject to line test and the customer being connected to an ADSL-enabled exchange. Where these circumstances apply, installation is typically within 15 working days of order.
